Mushrooms will be in season and we will be hunting them!

An out of the frying pan and into the fire experience. Everything we eat for the entire weekend will have either been foraged, grown, hunted, or caught in the local area. We will prepare all mealson site and Dave Odd will give insight and advice on preparing and preserving foraged ingredients as well as cooking demos.

In addition to foraging and campfire camaraderie other activities will include fishing, nighttime headlamp frog walk, haunted site exploration, a bonfire, finding and identifying local fauna (reptiles, insects, and more), viewing the local bison herd, exploring ruins, maybe a trip to a nearby waterfall, and more. A weekend of experiences to last a lifetime.

Pick your own campsite, full bathrooms and showers on site. Come down for the entire weekend or just for a day. Tents and air mattresses available if you don't have your own. Arrive Friday night or Saturday morning, you can leave whenever you'd like and even stay through the entire day Monday.

With the launch of Glendalough’s Forage & Fizz summer workshops, explore the world of craft spirits by learning how we identify suitable plants, harvest botanicals, and experiment with flavors. Glendalough Wild Botanical Irish Gin is crafted in a distillery with fresh, wild botanicals from the bountiful valley of Glendalough in County Wicklow that are hand-picked daily by Ireland’s only full-time forager, Geraldine Kavanagh.

This includes over 200 species of edible/medicinal plants/mushrooms, 24+ species of reptiles and amphibians, over 120 species of birds, over 25 species of mammals (including otters, beavers, badgers, & mink), 800+ species of insects, and at least 86 threatened and endangered species. Join Dave for an all encompassing wildlife flora & fauna safari where you are guaranteed to learn about at least 30 species of edible/medicinal plants/mushrooms, and meet snakes and amphibians up close and personal, see cool birds, and more. You are guaranteed to see several “lifers” (species you’ve never seen before) and learn about some amazing species you didn’t even know existed this close to Chicago. There’s some cool gangland history, a local Nature Conservancy bison herd to see, a creepy old cemetery, and much more to see and explore. Then join Dave for a nighttime campfire dinner. All meals provided but you can also bring whatever you'd like.

You can come down for just the day on Saturday or Sunday or camp out overnight to attend both days. Campsites on site and a separate full bathroom for campers to use. We even have tents and air mattresses you can borrow if you don’t have your own. Pack a lunch or bring some snacks (there is a fridge you can use).

Forage Fourth & Feast at The Land of Odd, Beaverville IL

It’s the weekend after 4th of July so we’ll do things a little different for this one. We’ll have fireworks, a bonfire, s’mores, and locally sourced hamburgers and hotdogs as well.

Forage and Feast will happen the first weekend of every month throughout the growing season at The Land of Odd in Beaverville IL. An immersive out of the frying pan and into the fire experience where we will explore the rural wilderness of the Kankakee Sands, foraging for plants and mushrooms while meeting the wildlife of the region along the way. Great fishing is also available. We then return to The Land of Odd with our finds to collectively prepare a communal meal of our spoils, cooked over an open fire.

Outside of salt and oil every ingredient we use will be something we personally foraged or was grown, produced, farmed, or hunted in the local area.

You can come down just for the day, or camp out and spend the weekend (you can arrive Friday night if you’d like). Tents are available by request if you don’t have your own. There is a full bathroom with shower available for campers. The Land of Odd can also accommodate recreational vehicles.

Only $150 per person for both days, $100 for only one day.
